One of the most intriguing things about the current state of the electric vehicle is all of the small companies that have sprung up to build them. Like in the early days of the automobile, all sorts of underdogs are trying to put their mark on the EV market. Metro-Detroit based Bollinger Motors is one of these small manufacturers, and they’ve just released a documentary series detailing their journey.

If you’re an MC&T reader, you’re likely familiar with Bollinger Motors at this point. The company holds an interesting niche in the EV space, producing the world’s first electric Class 3 trucks powered by their E-Chassis system. Combine this with their patented pass-through technology, their unmatched off-road capability, and available chassis cab configuration, and the Bollinger product line clearly seeks to fill a different role than the Cybertruck.

Perhaps this is a result of the company’s beginnings, and founder Robert Bollinger’s idea of an electric truck. At the debut event for the B1 pickup truck and B2 SUV, Bollinger told MC&T about how his time on the farm in upstate New York shaped his brand. Bollinger Motors started in 2015 with the intention of creating a truck platform from the ground up, not limited to the mold required by a traditional powertrain. A vehicle that could handle rugged terrain in any weather condition, while offering some old-school 4×4 styling.

In the first episode of the documentary series, which the brand describes as a fly-on-the-wall experience, this sentiment is shared again. You can find the full four-part series on the Bollinger Motors YouTube Channel, which highlights their journey up to this point, and where they are headed. There also a load of videos detailing their engineering and design process, should that sort of thing be your fancy.

Like the Rivian R1T, the Bollinger Motors lineup is expected to launch sometime in 2021, though no official date has been released at this time.
